The Isaacson expansion in quantum cosmology

چکیده

This paper is an application of the ideas of the Born-Oppenheimer (or slow/fast) approximation in molecular physics and of the Isaacson (or shortwave) approximation in classical gravity to the canonical quantization of a perturbed minisuperspace model of the kind examined by Halliwell and Hawking. Its aim is the clarification of the role of the semiclassical approximation and the backreaction in such a model. Approximate solutions of the quantum model are constructed which are not semiclassical, and semiclassical solutions in which the quantum perturbations are highly excited. 04.60.+n Typeset using REVTEX 1

کوانتش گرانش و بررسی هندسی مکانیک کوانتمی

We elaborate on some recent results on a solution of the Hilbert-space problem in minisuperspace quantum cosmology and discuss the consequences of making the (geometry of the) Hilbert space of ordinary nonrelativistic quantum systems time-dependent. The latter reveals a remarkable similarity between Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity.

Explaining the Supernova Data without Accelerating Expansion

The 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded “for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae.” However, it is not the case that the type Ia supernova data necessitates accelerating expansion. Since we do not have a successful theory of quantum gravity, we should not assume general relativity (GR) will survive unification intact, especia...

Cosmological Inflation: a Simple Qualitative Explanation

Cosmological in ation: a brief reminder. In large-scale, the Universe is reasonably uniform. This observed uniformity poses a problem to cosmology; see, e.g., [3]. Indeed, it is easy to explain the uniformity of gas inside a given volume, where molecules interact with each other, as a result of which, inhomogeneities disappear. However, in cosmology, the Universe's expansion goes so fast that d...

Cosmology with minimal length uncertainty relations

We study the effects of the existence of a minimal observable length in the phase space of classical and quantum de Sitter (dS) and Anti de Sitter (AdS) cosmology. Since this length has been suggested in quantum gravity and string theory, its effects in the early universe might be expected. Adopting the existence of such a minimum length results in the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP), w...

Time, Incompleteness and Singularity in Quantum Cosmology

In this paper we extend our 2007 paper, “Comparative Quantum Cosmology: Causality, Singularity, and Boundary Conditions”, http://arxiv.org/ ftp/arxiv/papers/0710/0710.5046.pdf, to include consideration of universal expansion, various implications of extendibility and incompleteness in spacetime metrics and, absent the treatment of Feynman diagrams, the use of Penning trap dynamics to describe t...
